چکیده

We have performed detailed NLTE spectral synthesis modeling of 2 types of 1D hydro models: the very highly parameterized deflagration model W7, and two delayed detonation models. We find that overall both models do about equally well at fitting well observed SNe Ia near to maximum light. However, the Si II 6150 feature of W7 is systematically too fast, whereas for the delayed detonation models it is also somewhat too fast, but significantly better than that of W7. We find that a parameterized mixed model does the best job of reproducing the Si II 6150 line near maximum light and we study the differences in the models that lead to better fits to normal SNe Ia. We discuss what is required of a hydro model to fit the spectra of observed SNe Ia near maximum light. Subject headings: stars: atmospheres — supernovae: SN 1992A, SN 1994D, SN 1999ee Homer L. Type Ia supernovae: their origin and possible applications in cosmology.

Spectroscopic and photometric evidence indicates that Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are the thermonuclear explosions of accreting white dwarfs. However, the progenitor binary systems and hydrodynamical models for SNe Ia are still controversial. The relatively uniform light curves and spectral evolution of SNe Ia have led to their use as a standard candle for determining cosmological parameters, s...

We report near infrared (NIR) spectroscopic observations of twelve “Branchnormal” Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) which cover the wavelength region from 0.8-2.5 μm. Our sample more than doubles the number of SNe Ia with published NIR spectra within three weeks of maximum light. The epochs of observation range from thirteen days before maximum light to eighteen days after maximum light. A detailed m...

Nlte Modeling of Sne Ia near Maximum Light

Modeling the atmospheres of SNe Ia requires the solution of the NLTE radiative transfer equation. We discuss the formulation of the radiative transfer equation in the co-moving frame. For characteristic velocities larger than ∼ 2000 km s, the effects of advection on the synthetic spectra are non-negligible, and hence should be included in model calculations. We show that the time-independent or...

SNE IA CONSTRAINTS FROM NIR SPECTRA 3 use of SNe

RESUMEN El resumen será traducido al español por los editores. We describe a research program to improve the understanding of Type Ia Super-novae (SNe Ia) by modeling and observing near infrared (NIR) spectra of these events. The NIR between 0.9µ and 2.5µ is optimal for examining certain products of the SNe Ia explosion that may be blended or obscured in other spectral regions. NIR analysis wil...

The Prototype of a New Subclass of Type Ia Supernovae

We present Keck optical spectra of SN 2002cx, the most peculiar known Type Ia supernova (SN Ia), taken 227 and 277 days past maximum light. Astonishingly, the spectra are not dominated by the forbidden emission lines of iron that are a hallmark of thermonuclear supernovae in the nebular phase. Instead, we identify numerous P-Cygni profiles of Fe II at very low expansion velocities of ∼700 km s−...
